How to Use

Bring the rich, aromatic flavours of Indian-inspired cooking to your kitchen with Spiceworks Biryani Masala. This carefully blended seasoning combines aromatic spices, garlic, onion and ginger to create the warm, savoury flavour of homemade biryani. Perfect for preparing delicious chicken biryani, lamb biryani, vegetable biryani and fragrant basmati rice dishes.

Whether you're cooking a traditional-inspired chicken biryani, preparing tender lamb with aromatic rice or creating a flavourful vegetable biryani, Spiceworks Biryani Masala makes it easy to enjoy delicious Indian-inspired meals without measuring multiple individual spices.

This versatile biryani spice blend is ideal for family dinners, special occasions and everyday home cooking. Use it to season chicken, lamb, seafood, rice or vegetables, or combine it with yoghurt, onion and tomatoes to create a rich, aromatic base for homemade biryani.

Recommended Usage: Use approximately 2–3 tablespoons of Biryani Masala per 500g of meat, chicken, seafood or vegetables. Adjust the amount according to your preferred taste.

For Classic Chicken Biryani: Begin by soaking basmati rice in water for approximately 30 minutes before cooking. In a separate bowl, combine approximately 500g of chicken with Biryani Masala, plain yoghurt and a little lemon juice. Mix thoroughly and refrigerate while the flavours develop.

Heat a little oil in a large cooking pot and sauté sliced onions until lightly golden. Add chopped tomatoes and the marinated chicken, stirring gently to combine the ingredients. Cook until the chicken is nearly cooked through.

Parboil the soaked basmati rice separately, then layer it over the chicken mixture. Add a little stock or water as needed, cover tightly and cook over low heat until the rice is tender and the chicken is thoroughly cooked.

For additional aroma, add a small pinch of saffron or a little rose water before the final cooking stage. Serve hot with cucumber raita, fresh salad or your favourite chutney.

For Lamb Biryani: Combine diced lamb with Biryani Masala, plain yoghurt and fresh lemon juice. Refrigerate while the flavours develop. Cook the lamb with onions, tomatoes and a little oil until tender.

Layer the seasoned lamb with partially cooked basmati rice, adding a little stock or water if needed. Cover the pot and cook gently until the rice is fluffy and the lamb is tender. Serve with fresh coriander, sliced onion and a cooling yoghurt-based raita.

For Vegetable Biryani: Prepare a delicious meat-free biryani using cauliflower, potatoes, carrots, peas, green beans or your preferred vegetables. Heat a little oil in a large pan and sauté chopped onion until softened.

Add the vegetables, tomatoes and Biryani Masala, stirring well to distribute the seasoning. Cook briefly, then layer with partially cooked basmati rice. Add a little water or vegetable stock, cover and simmer gently until the rice and vegetables are tender.

Serve with cucumber raita, fresh coriander and a squeeze of lemon juice.

For Prawn Biryani: Toss cleaned prawns with a little Biryani Masala and oil. Sauté onion and tomatoes in a pan, then add the prawns and cook until opaque and thoroughly cooked.

Combine with fragrant basmati rice and gently heat until the flavours are evenly distributed. Serve with fresh lemon wedges and a light yoghurt dressing for a delicious seafood-inspired biryani.

For One-Pot Chicken Biryani: Prepare a flavourful family meal by combining chicken pieces with Biryani Masala, onions, tomatoes and yoghurt in a large cooking pot.

Add soaked basmati rice and the appropriate amount of water or stock for your chosen rice. Cover and cook gently until the rice is tender and the chicken is thoroughly cooked.

Finish with freshly chopped coriander and serve with raita or fresh salad.

For Dum-Style Biryani: Prepare your chosen chicken, lamb or vegetable biryani mixture using Spiceworks Biryani Masala. Parboil basmati rice separately and arrange it in layers with the seasoned ingredients.

For a traditional-inspired dum cooking method, seal the pot with a tight-fitting lid, using foil or dough around the edges if desired. Cook over low heat until the ingredients are thoroughly cooked and the aromatic flavours have developed.

Allow the biryani to rest briefly before opening the pot and gently fluffing the rice.

For Spiced Basmati Rice: Add a small amount of Biryani Masala to basmati rice while cooking to create a fragrant Indian-inspired rice dish. Combine with sautéed onion, a little oil and your preferred vegetables for additional flavour.

Serve alongside chicken curry, grilled meats, vegetable dishes or other Indian-inspired meals.

For Chicken Biryani Rice Bowls: Season diced chicken with Biryani Masala, plain yoghurt and a little lemon juice. Cook the chicken thoroughly in a frying pan, then serve over freshly cooked basmati rice.

Add cucumber, tomato, fresh coriander and a yoghurt-based dressing for an easy Indian-inspired lunch or dinner.

For Biryani-Style Roasted Vegetables: Toss cauliflower, potatoes, carrots, capsicum or other vegetables with a little oil and Biryani Masala. Arrange on a baking tray and roast until tender and lightly golden.

Serve as a flavourful side dish with basmati rice, grilled chicken or your favourite Indian-inspired meal.

For Biryani Marinades: Combine approximately 2–3 tablespoons of Biryani Masala with plain yoghurt, fresh lemon juice and a little oil. Mix thoroughly and coat approximately 500g of chicken or lamb evenly.

Refrigerate while the flavours develop before using the marinated ingredients in your favourite biryani recipe. Cook all meat and poultry thoroughly before serving.

For Indian-Inspired Rice & Vegetable Dishes: Add a small amount of Biryani Masala to cooked rice, sautéed vegetables or other savoury dishes to create a warm, aromatic flavour. The seasoning complements potatoes, cauliflower, peas, carrots and a variety of homemade rice dishes.
